SEND Playworker

Vision teaching are currently working with an outstanding special needs school located in the Richmond Borough. This special needs school is a secondary aged school with ages ranging from 11-18. They are looking for a playworker to work 5 days a week, 9:45am till 1.45pm. the class you will be situated in a secondary aged SLD class (Severe learning difficulties) they are open to candidates with little experience but a positive attitude and willingness to learn. The school promote independence to their learners and a lot of the activities with the pupils are based around this. Personal care is involved in this role so you must be comfortable with this.

Breakdown of the role:

• Based in secondary SLD SEN classes
• Between 9:45-11:30am will be class-based supporting with learning in the classrooms, supporting with toileting/personal care, may support on Educational Visits if long-term.
• Between 11:30-12 supporting other TA playleaders with setting up the hall for lunch
• 12-1:20pm supporting at lunch times with specific learners (feeding, supervising, toileting/personal care)
• If the person was to stay on as a long-term agency, they may move into some of the ‘playleader’ duties between 12-1:20pm such as helping to set up fun activities in the playground such as music, basketball hoops/balls, bikes and scooters, playground games. This would not be an expectation currently, though
• 1:20-1:45pm support the other 2 playleaders (who are on permanent contracts) to complete jobs for the day
• This group of ‘playleader TAs’ are line managed by one of our teachers so there would be a clear support network for them

Ideal candidate

• DBS On the update system or wiling to apply
• Happy to provide personal care
• Previous SEND experience
• Previous experience with secondary aged SEND pupils
• Available 5 days a week from January
• 9:45am till 1.45pm available
