The English Department has a well structured curriculum based over 5 key principles; Relevance, Coherence, Communication and Confidence and it covers a wide variety of literature across all key stages; including text from different social, historic and ethnic backgrounds. Pupils are motivated to start reading more widely and independently from Year 7 with specific library lessons once every 2 weeks using the Accelerated Reader scheme. This contributes to their wider English skills in other subject areas. There is also a range of popular extra-curricular activities run by the English department such as the Poet Laureate Award, Challenge Days, Writing Competitions, theatre trips.
The ideal candidate for the role would need to have the following:
– Experience working with an Education setting
– Be a specialist in English with proof of experience teaching to GCSE
– DBS on the Update service
– 2 contactable references
– QTS or UK equivalent
